GENERAL INFORMATION

What is the Home Use Program?

The Home Use Program is a Software Assurance benefit, available as part of Microsoft's volume licensing programs. Through this offering, eligible employees can obtain a copy of Microsoft® Office Enterprise Edition to install and use on a home computer during the term of the Software Assurance coverage. Other Microsoft Office applications are also available through Home Use Program.

What is Software Assurance?

Software Assurance ensures that organizations have access to the latest Microsoft software and provides a range of benefits delivering productivity enhancements, support and tools and training. The Home Use Program is one of the productivity-enhancing benefits of Software Assurance.

What are the features/programs available?

The Home Use Program lets eligible employees obtain a licensed copy of select Microsoft Office desktop programs including Microsoft Office Enterprise (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, OneNote, InfoPath, Publisher, Groove), Microsoft Project Standard, and Microsoft Office Visio Standard, that they are licensed for at work, to install and use on a home computer.

Can I pick and choose applications or is it a comprehensive package?

The Home Use Program version of Microsoft Office Enterprise Edition includes the same applications available to you at work such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access and InfoPath. Additional Microsoft Office applications are available separately.

Who qualifies to participate in the program?

If you are a licensed user of a qualifying Microsoft Office application, you may order a single copy of the corresponding Home Use Program media to install and use on a home computer. We will notify you in the event that Donaldson's Software Assurance coverage is discontinued.

SOFTWARE USE

Can my use of applications be monitored by Microsoft or my employer?

Your Home Use Program software cannot be monitored by Microsoft. Your employer can monitor software use only to the extent they monitor your home computer.

When does the program end? What happens if I leave the company?

Your license for Home Use Program software is valid as long as you maintain your current employment and your employer maintains its Software Assurance coverage with Microsoft. If you leave the company, your employer discontinues its Software Assurance coverage, or you are no longer a user of the licensed software as part of your employment, your license terminates and you should discontinue use of the software. Your employer should notify you if any of these conditions apply.

Will there be another fee to upgrade in the future?

Users of Home Use Program software are entitled to the same free downloadable updates as other customers.  When new product versions are available, qualified employees can upgrade for a small fee.

Will I need to register the product to make it functional?

Home Use Program software is subject to the same activation requirements as other commercially available Microsoft software.

Can I copy this program for relatives or friends?

No. The Home Use Program entitles each qualified employee to a single license of a qualifying Microsoft software program, to be installed on the employee's home computer. Employees may not make additional copies of the software.

Can I get more than one copy or install the application on multiple computers?

No. The Home Use Program entitles each qualified employee to one license for the covered Microsoft software.

Can the software obtained through the Home Use Program be given away?

No. The software may not be given away. The Home Use Program license extends only to the qualified employee, and may not be given away or sold.

Is the Home Use Program licensed software eligible for other rebate offers?

No. Software purchased through the Microsoft Home Use Program may not be combined with any other promotions.

How new is the version available?

The Home Use Program provides the latest commercially available versions of Microsoft Office software.

Is it a fully-licensed product or is there an expiration date?

There is no specific expiration date to the Home Use Program license. If you leave the company, your employer discontinues its Software Assurance coverage, or you are no longer a user of the licensed software as part of your employment, your license terminates and you should discontinue use of the software. Your employer should notify you if any of these conditions apply.

What will happen to my documents created in older versions of Microsoft Office?
