DONALDSON® TORIT® INTRODUCES SYNTEQ™ XP FILTER MEDIA FOR MACHINE TOOL MIST COLLECTORS

MINNEAPOLIS, MN USA -- March 12, 2007 – Donaldson Torit a leading worldwide provider of filtration systems and replacement parts, has developed patent-pending Synteq™ XP media for capture of mist generated from metalworking machine tools. This new media uses a resin-free bonding technique to provide higher efficiency, lower operating pressure drop and 2-3x longer life compared to traditional filter media.

Historically, mist filter media was made using polyester fibers, glass fibers, or a combination of glass and polyester bonded with resin – which all have performance limitations. Polyester filters are relatively inexpensive, but the large size of the fibers equates to lower efficiency on small particulate. Filters made with all glass fibers have higher efficiency but lose up to 25% of their efficiency during their usable life. The resin used in glass and polyester filters to hold the fibers together block many of the glass fibers, reducing efficiency and inhibiting drainage.

Synteq XP, however, uses a new proprietary resin-free bonding method of blending small glass fibers and large polyester fibers that provide unblocked filtration fibers and channels for optimum draining of the collected liquid and higher performance. The small fibers are scientifically proven to increase efficiency, while the larger fibers provide structural support and clear drain channels.

For use in the new WSO (water, smoke, oil) mist collector from Donaldson Torit, Synteq XP media comes in three options based on the type of mist:

• Synteq XP-W is an economical and fast draining media for heavy, water-based liquids.

• Synteq XP-S media is designed to filter smoke from machining applications. Synteq XP-O is used to collect mist from straight oil machining and is designed to be highly efficient for small oil aerosols.

• Synteq XP media is engineered for Donaldson Torit’s new WSO mist collector that filters water-soluble coolants, straight oil and oily smoke.

The versatile WSO is the only mist collector available that accommodates all three applications by simply changing the filter cartridge to match the mist type. WSO provides metalworkers with a more flexible, cost-effective and simplified solution to address industry challenges such as faster machine tool speeds, higher coolant pressures, lean work cells and rising energy costs.
