FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EASA CERTIFIES AFS ENGINE FILTER FOR EUROCOPTER AS350 HELICOPTERS
Paris, France, 21 January 2009 – Aerospace Filtration Systems, Inc. (AFS) and its sister company Le Bozec Filtration & Systems, have received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for an Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) system for Eurocopter AS350 helicopters. This approval opens the door for European operators flying AS350 series helicopters to maximize engine protection and realize performance and maintenance benefits from proven AFS technology. Availability of the system from AFS through Le Bozec allows local European sales and support to maximize customer benefits.

AFS IBF-equipped AS350 helicopters can freely operate with no engine inlet imposed flight or gross weight restrictions. The approved AFS Flight Manual Supplement allows operation to basic inlet and sand filter performance charts based on power check results. The new approval includes all Turbomeca Arriel AS350 models with the exception of the AS350B3 with dual hydraulic systems, which utilizes the AFS EC130 configuration system pending EASA certification. Also included are Honeywell powered models with Soloy or Heli-Lynx engine conversions.
The IBF system for the AS350 features an easily removed flat filter assembly with 4,500 flight hour life and an integral bypass design, easily mounted on the existing cowl without troublesome alterations. A filter maintenance aid allows for on-condition status checks between established cleaning intervals, eliminating unnecessary service. No restrictions are imposed for flight in falling or blowing snow or with visible moisture in non-icing conditions. With more than 3,000 AFS IBF's in service worldwide, AS350 users will realize significantly better engine protection and performance than that offered by traditional AS350 sand filters or inertial particle separators.
AFS is the industry leader in the design, development and manufacture of high-performance engine inlet protection solutions for commercial and military propulsion systems. The company manufactures certified products for the Eurocopter EC130, AS350 B/BA/B1/B2/B3, AS350's with Soloy or Heli-Lynx Honeywell engine conversions; AgustaWestland AW119 Koala, AW119Ke; Bell 205A1, 206B, 407, 206L-3/4, 206L-1(C30); MD Helicopters MD 369H Series, MD 500D/E/F and MD 900/902. IBF systems for the AgustaWestland AW139, AW109 Power and Grand, Bell 430 and Bell 206L are also in development. AFS is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Donaldson Company, Inc.
