MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota USA — Donaldson Company, Inc., leading manufacturer of industrial filters, announces the availability of a new very high performance filter media, Donaldson Spider-Web XP. It’s a product line improvement that carries measurable benefits to the user.
Fractional efficiency tests show that on 0.5-micron size particles, the initial efficiency of Donaldson Spider-Web XP is twice that of normal Donaldson Spider-Web. That is, only 13% of 0.5-micron size particles are left to pass through vs 26%. Stopping more of the dust particles in the zero to 2 micron range reduces compressor blade fouling; less fouling results in higher turbine output and improved heat rate.
Donaldson Spider-Web and Spider-Web XP technologies use a proprietary matrix of synthetic nanofibers, bonded over a media substrate, that provide high permeability and negligible restriction. The Spider-Web layer is made of fibers so fine that they don’t impede airflow, yet are strong enough to capture very small particles. This is important for most turbine installations because the particles smaller than 5microns are the ones that cause fouling of the turbine & compressor blades. Donaldson Spider-Web protects the turbine from excessive and premature fouling.
“Donaldson Spider-Web XP isn’t for everyone,” explains Guy Thompson, Director of Project Engineering for Donaldson gas turbine filters. “It’s designed for operators who closely track their turbine performance and are conscious of every piece of the equation that influences turbine output. Donaldson Spider-Web XP can bring them measurably positive results.”
Donaldson Spider-Web XP is available inside filter elements designed for Donaldson’s GDX Self-Cleaning Filtration System.
