FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DONALDSON® TORIT® OFFERS DUST COLLECTION SOLUTIONS TO HELP MEET TIGHER HEX CHROME REGULATIONS

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov.9 — Donaldson® Torit®, the dust collector brand of leading air filtration manufacturer, Donaldson Company, Inc., announces immediate availability of dust collectors with Ultra-Web® nanofiber & HEPA filters that will help customers meet OHSA’s new, lower limits on hexavalent chromium exposure.

Many manufacturers are re-thinking their capture/control strategies on welding fume, thermal spray, coating operations, and other industrial processes, due to the change in OSHA regulations. The revised OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) of Hexavalent Chromium was reduced to 5 micrograms of fume per cubic meter of air during an 8-hour work shift. Before, the PEL was 52 μg/m3, approximately 10x the new PEL.

A full solution to reducing worker exposure to hexavalent chromium involves:

• Engineering controls where required – source capture of dust, dust collection, good duct work, etc (as recommended in Industrial Ventilation, A Manual of Recommended Practice.

• Good housekeeping around the shop.

• Proper personal protective equipment.

• Controlling personal habits (eye rubbing, nail biting, etc) at work.

Donaldson Torit dust collectors are available in both portable and stationary configurations. The company offers source-capture hoods, extraction arms, and
Ultra-Web nanofiber filters for excellent capture of the welding fume, thermal spray particles, or other particles carrying hexavalent chromium.

Hexavalent Chromium is not, itself, a discrete particle; rather, it is a component carried by fume or dust particles. Typical particle sizes for fume particles from vary among processes. Welding and thermal spraying have the greatest need for dust collection/particle control.

• Welding/Thermal spraying

0.05 – 2.0 microns (80% of total fume is

typically in this size range)

• Wet Paints with chromates

0.7 - 34 microns

• Chrome-plating

0.75 - 6.4 microns

Donaldson Torit fume collectors address these tiny, sub-micron particles with Ultra-Web nanofiber filter technology. Efficiency and filter life are optimized because the filter media maintains a stable 1.5” pressure drop (ΔP) across the filters.

Donaldson Torit designs, manufactures and markets in-plant air filtration and pollution control systems, replacement filters and products that help eliminate dangerous dust, fume and mist contaminants from the workplace. Donaldson Torit is a part of the Donaldson Company, a leading worldwide manufacturer of filtration systems.
