Industry: Candy Making

Problem: Short filter life—filter bags that plugged up with fine-grained & sticky sorbitol.

Solution: Dura-Life™ filter bags installed in a Donaldson® Torit® Dalamatic® dust collector.

Sorbitol is a sweetener—but using it in manufacturing is not always a sweet operation! At one major candy producer in Canada, this fine, powdery substance became sticky due to operating conditions, clogging the conventional filter bags in the dust collector and causing unacceptably high pressure drop.

The solution was a new Donaldson® Torit® Dalamatic® dust collector equipped with Dura-Life™ filter bags.

Made with a unique hydroentanglement process, Dura-Life filter bags provide higher airflow capacity and higher filtration efficiency—even in challenging operating conditions. The results are lower pressure drop, less downtime, and cleaner plant air.

The factory saw operational benefits immediately:

  • Lower stabilized pressure drop across the Dura-Life™ filter bags. The system operated non-stop for five days before the self-cleaning mechanism first cycled in the Dalamatic collector.
  • Reduced compressed air consumption, resulting in lower energy usage.
  • Lower emissions due to the higher filtration efficiency of Dura-Life™ filter bags.
