The role of coolant filters extends beyond the typical filtration function of contaminant removal. They also play a key role in replenishing coolant additives to help prevent scale formation, corrosion, and cavitation, which can lead to surface pitting. If left unchecked, these problems can prevent the transfer of heat in coolant and cause coolant systems to operate less efficiently and effectively.
Coolant system filters are typically partial-flow (by-pass) filters, with less than 10 percent of the coolant flow circulating through the filter at any given time. Use of the correct filter is important for maintaining proper coolant system balance and preventing over-concentration (silicate dropout) or under-concentration, which leads to corrosion, liner pitting, or other system problems. That’s why we offer three types of coolant filters – so you can easily match the filter to your system needs and maintenance practices.

Donaldson coolant filter assemblies are compatible with petroleum-based fluids (hydrocarbons). They are also suitable for coolant systems with a volume capacity of up to 1,500 lpm / 400 gpm and operating pressure of 1,034 kPa / 150 psi.
