Our Sustainability Strategy

At Donaldson, we take an integrated approach to sustainability. Sustainability is not a standalone initiative or goal. It is built into what we do and why we exist as a company. Our sustainability strategy, Filtration for a Thriving Future, is grounded by our company purpose - Advancing Filtration for a Cleaner World. This purpose is the foundation for why we exist and why we create our technologies, products, and solutions.

Our sustainability strategy also holds us to deeper accountability for our company principles. These principles are at the heart of everything we do, guiding our behaviors, relationships, and interactions. Connecting our strategy with our principles means greater alignment to support our sustainability efforts and achieve our desired outcomes.

2030 Sustainability Ambitions

Our 2030 Sustainability Ambitions represent clear pathways to measure and define success for our sustainability aspirations and priorities. They drive our actions in critical areas that impact people and the planet. Donaldson currently has four main goals, each discussed in greater detail within our sustainability report.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions — Donaldson is committed to helping mitigate climate change. We are targeting an absolute reduction of our Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% over a fiscal year 2021 baseline. This ambition and the execution roadmap are science-based and align with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 1.5°C global warming scenario.

Waste Reduction — Donaldson is committed to being good stewards of natural resources and reducing our environmental impact. We aim to reduce landfill waste from operations from a FY24 baseline and/or increase recycling, reuse, and material optimization, targeting a total impact of 3,200 metric tons (40% of FY24 landfill waste).

Employee Health and Safety — Donaldson is committed to providing safe and healthy workplaces. We aim to have year-over-year reductions in life-changing events and consistently achieve zero life-changing events. We define life-changing events as work-related fatalities, hospitalizations, amputations, or vision loss due to serious injury or illness.

Community Engagement and Giving — Donaldson is committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work. Through the Donaldson Foundation, we aim to increase charitable giving to organizations serving educational needs by 25% every four years, donating at least $13.5 million cumulatively from fiscal year 2022 to fiscal year 2030.

Sustainability In Action

Sustainability at Donaldson shows up in our actions. Our achievements reflect the dedication of our 14,000+ employees worldwide.

Renewable energy capacity expands with on-site solar projects. Donaldson has expanded its capacity to produce renewable electricity with the completion of an array at the DAGS I plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico. We have now completed four solar projects in Mexico, including systems at DAGS II, DAGS III, and the Latin America Distribution Center (LADC). The solar panels will produce more than 2,900,000 kWh of clean power annually and will reduce more than 1,240 metric tons of CO2e emissions.

Joint solar project in the United States starts producing renewable electricity. Donaldson joined a virtual power purchase agreement with PepsiCo last year, tied to a solar energy project in Texas that has recently been completed. With the system now operational, the project is expected to offset a majority of Donaldson’s U.S. electrical energy demand. This investment supports our decarbonization efforts and aligns with customers who are committed to carbon‑reduction goals across their supply chains.

EMEA Packaging

Teams work to divert waste from landfills through packaging choices. One example of this effort is a packaging initiative being implemented across multiple locations in North America and Europe. Sites have started switching to a new pallet wrap made from Megaplast fiber stretch film. This material is recyclable and uses less plastic than our previous wrap while providing the same performance. This material helps us reduce our waste to landfill and increase our recycling, especially on shipments sent to other Donaldson facilities.
